Although this was the first Christmas meeting to
be held at the new Venue, in Darwen; the meeting
was held as usual on the second Sunday in December,
as opposed to the usual meetings, etc; which are
held on the third Sunday of every month.
This year, things were slightly different. Since
the early years of the group, Christmas fayre had
always been one of Hot pot pie and mushy peas, however;
after discussing this matter it was decided that
it would be advantageous to have a buffét
style luncheon in place of the Hot pot pie and mushy
peas, Thanks here must go to Brian Walsh for liaising
with the club over this, as the buffét luncheon
provided was to say the least very good quality
and value for money.
Following on from the luncheon, with the aid of
a power point presentation, the Secretary gave a
light hearted résumé of some of the
aquatic hobby functions the CSG visited with its
display stand around the UK, with a strong presence
at a number of other events around the world during
2006.
In the UK the stand was present at the Festival
of Fishkeeping at Hayling Island, the British Cichlid
Association in Amersham and The British Aquarist
Festival in Stretford Manchester. Overseas visits
included the “All Aquarium Catfish”
convention hosted by the Potomac Valley A.S. in
Laurel, Maryland, USA and the “Amazonian”
convention hosted by the Grenland Aquarium Club
in Porsgrunn in Norway.
The meeting concluded with a Quiz, compiled and
compared by our Membership secretary Stuart Brown,
his list of eighteen questions had all been derived
from the subjects covered at our monthly meetings
and contents of this year’s issue of the group’s
magazine “Cat Chat”. Goody bags of varied
dry goods, including Tee shirts would be awarded
for the three members attaining the highest points.
Once the quiz was over our sheets were marked, handed
in and totalled up. I found that I had finished
FIRST OK third, however it turned out that
there was a tie for first place between our Chairman
Ian Fuller and the group’s newest committee
member Mark Walters, which meant a tiebreak question;
this resulted with Ian being declared the winner.
Hopefully the quiz can become a regular Christmas
item.
I would like to take this
opportunity to wish all our members Yuletide felicitations
and hope every one has a prosperous new year.
