OPEN SHOW 2008                                                                                           Back to Show Index

As you all know, the CSG 2008 Open Show took place on the 21st September and there are a couple of things I would like to say about it. Firstly the down side, which was that the number of fish entries were down by about 20% on last year and a little more worrying is the number of people showing was down by 30%.

On the good side, especially from the CSG's point of view, is that the accompanying auction was a huge success, with some very nice items going through. As I said the show entry numbers were down, but the quality of the exhibits was certainly not. There were some magnificent specimens on view, the best of these being a superb Bagroides melapterus shown by Dave Speed. I managed to make amends for last years disappointments by winning both Corydoras 'A' & 'B' classes as well as Corydoras pairs, didn't quite make it a clean sweep with my Cory breeders coming in a close second.

I am sure there are more people out there that would like to tell us what they thought of the show, we would certainly like to hear them as this will help us to improve how we do things.

The one thing that I think we are doing well by way of encouragement to get people to show is the "Goodie bag" We pride ourselves in what we offer our exhibitors especially in the light of the cut-backs that are happening from the trade. Although I have not priced the contents of this years "Goodie bag" I estimate there was around £30 worth of products in each one. Not a bad gift for entering just one fish and with a free entry that's a pretty good deal I think.

For those that didn't attend make a note of next years date 20th September 2009.
